Digital Trees (2018)

Digital Trees depicts one of few trees in Melbourne’s inner-urban landscape that have survived since before European colonisation. Ongoing urban expansion has cleared much of Melbourne’s indigenous vegetation, resulting in fragmentation of habitat structures, displacement of animals, and declining biodiversity. In addition to this ecological importance, these trees are of great cultural significance for the Wurundjeri people. Novel means of capturing and representing environments enable new opportunities for promoting the acknowledgement and protection of these important trees. In this piece, 3D scanning captures one remnant river red gum’s isolation and fragility.
