Enfold Coffee Table (2017)

This project endeavored to create a continuous and flowing piece, free of any fixings. The resulting coffee table, Enfold, achieves this by heat-folding a single sheet of clear acrylic into a tabletop with quadrants that approach one another but never meet. The fabrication process induces smooth curvature by gravity-draping laser-cut material over CNC-cut moulds. Parametric modelling helps to produce shimmering apertures for both structural and aesthetic purposes. These perforations increase in size to ensure sufficient support for the tabletop, while removing excessive weight from the large cantilevered structure. Conversely, wavering perforations dwindle in areas of most stress to support the pivotal junctions.
